Highway 14 closed near White Salmon

Grass fire prompts action

WASHINGTON STATE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

Highway 14 is closed in both directions near White Salmon due to a grass fire and heavy smoke that has endangered the highway announces the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT). The highway is closed between the US 197 junction (milepost 83.5) and US 97 junction (milepost 101).

Motorists are encouraged to avoid this area if possible, and are asked to use I-84 through Oregon as a detour until crews can safely reopen the highway. Motorists traveling eastbound on SR 14 can take the US 197, Dalles Bridge into Oregon. Westbound traffic can take the US 97 Biggs Rapids-Sam Hill Bridge into Oregon.

Crews will reopen the highway once the fire and smoke have dissipated.
