Salmon seasons in upper rivers to open

Chinook fishing seasons on the South Fork Salmon and Upper Salmon rivers open Saturday, and portions of the Snake and Clearwater rivers closed this week.

Seasons can close on short notice and bag limits change, so for the latest information on salmon fishing and complete regulations, go to fishandgame.idaho.gov.

OPEN SALMON AREAS

South Fork Salmon River

The season opens Saturday.

On the lower South Fork of the Salmon, the season runs through July 5 or until further notice.

On the upper South Fork Salmon River, the season runs until further notice.

Affected waters open for chinook fishing are:

® Lower river from the bridge on Forest Service Road 48 (Lick Creek/East Fork South Fork Road) where it crosses the mainstem South Fork Salmon River just upstream of the confluence with the East Fork South Fork Salmon River, upstream about 16 miles to a posted boundary about 1 mile upstream from Fourmile Campground (about 2 miles downstream from Poverty Flat Campground).

® Upper river from a posted boundary about 1 mile upstream from Fourmile Campground (about 2 miles downstream from Poverty Flat Campground) upstream about 17 river miles to a posted boundary about 100 yards downstream from the Idaho Fish and Game South Fork Salmon River weir and trap.

Upper Salmon River

The season opens Saturday and runs until further notice.

River sections open to fishing are from:

® City of Salmon to Pahsimeroi River from the cable car crossing at the USGS flow gauging station, about 150 yards downstream ofIsland Park in Salmon, upstream to the posted boundary at the mouth of the Pahsimeroi River.

® Pahsimeroi River to East Fork Salmon River from a posted boundary at the mouth of the Pahsimeroi River, upstream to a posted boundary at the mouth of the East Fork Salmon River.

® East Fork Salmon River to Sawtooth Hatchery from a posted boundary at the mouth of the East Fork Salmon River, upstream to a posted boundary, about 100 yards downstream of the weir at Sawtooth Hatchery south of Stanley.

Main Salmon River

The 25-mile section of the Salmon River from Shorts Creek upstream to the boat ramp at Vinegar Creek opens Saturday and remains open until further notice.

Little Salmon River

Open from the mouth upstream to the bridge near Smokey Boulder Road. River is open until further notice.

SALMON CLOSURES

The Clearwater River

Section is closed from the mouth to the Orofino Bridge and the North Fork Clearwater. The Clearwater from Orofino Bridge upstream to the mouth of the South Fork Clearwater is closed to all chinook salmon fishing.

Snake River

All fishing for chinook salmon on the Snake River from the Dug Bar boat ramp upstream to Hells Canyon Dam will close to Idaho anglers.
