The 2009 Yukon River fall chum run has been assessed to be poor. However, the coho run is tracking above average. Since the majority of the fall chum run in District 4 has now passed upriver for escapement and subsistence use, the reduced subsistence salmon fishing schedule is being lifted to provide opportunity to harvest the later running coho and non-salmon species. Similar actions can be anticipated as fall chum salmon continue their migration upstream.
In District 4,
subsistence salmon fishing will be open 7 days a week 24 hours a day beginning 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 9 for the remainder of the season.
In the
Koyukuk River, subsistence salmon fishing is open 7 days a week 24 hours a day.
