E-mail Print PDF was developed by outdoor writer/photographer John L. Beath. Beath has always wanted to find a salmon super site that contained all of the salmon news stories to enable him to quickly find out about Pacific salmon in North America. When he could not find a site like this he decided to create his own salmon super site for salmon news and stories.

“I wanted a site that reporters, students, politicians, sport salmon anglers or anyone could go to find salmon news and stories on one easy to search website,” explains Beath. “With anyone on the net can now read about salmon throughout North America and choose which stories are relevant to them on one salmon super site.”

Salmon News is also part of a major online network of sites including the network’s flagship site,

About John L. Beath

Beath is the N.W. editor of Western Outdoors Magazine and also writes for many other regional and national magazines. His photos have appeared in dozens of magazines and newspapers.

At the age of eight he caught his first salmon, a plump 23-pound Chinook taken at Point No Point in Puget Sound. On August 18th, 2004 Beath set the I.G.F.A. six-pound line class record for Chinook salmon with a 51.25 pound trophy salmon.

“I fished for 30 days in August of ’2002 and ’03 and caught dozens of Chinook between 30 and 48 ½ pounds. In 2004 I only fished with light line three times before making the record catch I was hoping for,” explained Beath.

Beath made his catch at Rivers Inlet Resort ( in British Columbia, Canada, within 200 feet of the resort's front door. He used an Islander single action reel loaded with Berkley 4-pound XT line that pre-tested into the International Game Fish Association’s six-pound line class. The rod used was a 10 1/2 ft. G. Loomis Canadian style-mooching rod designed for light line fishing.

In 2002 Beath made an instructional video titled, John Beath’s Secrets of the Pros, Whole Herring Magic. Staying with his video theme, he used a whole herring laced on twin stainless steel Mustad hooks. Beath also sweetened the herring bait with his own brand of attractant called Super Scent. Beath also managed Rivers Inlet Resort for six years, which enabled him to fish every day for Rivers Inlet strain of GIANT Chinook salmon. In June 2009 he becomes president of the Outdoor Writers Association of America ( the largest group of outdoor communicators in the world.
